The Thorne family has always been rooted in Faith, love, teamwork, and unwavering support for one another. Mike and Buffy raised four children — Brent, Bailee, Brooklyn, and Beau — in a home filled with sports, laughter, and deep family bonds. They never imagined how much that bond would one day be tested.
On September 10, 2009, their world changed forever. Brooklyn, just 12 years old, went in for a routine physical so she could play volleyball. Instead, the family received devastating news: she had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). What followed were three long years of hospital stays, painful procedures, harsh treatments, and unimaginable fear. Yet Brooklyn fought with courage far beyond her years. In 2011, she beat cancer. Even after needing a hip replacement at only 16 and facing lifelong medical challenges, she went on to build a beautiful life — getting married and becoming the mother of two precious children. Her survival is nothing short of a miracle.
But the Thorne family’s battle was far from over.
Just 20 days after Brooklyn’s diagnosis, Buffy received a call that would change her life too. Her mammogram was abnormal. On September 30, 2009, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. While caring for her daughter through chemotherapy, hospitalizations, and fear, Buffy was quietly fighting her own war. Through chemo, radiation, and sheer determination, she stood strong for her children — and today, she is cancer free.
The Thornes believed they had endured the worst. They were wrong.
In October 2022, Beau — the youngest, a registered nurse who cared deeply for others — began feeling ill. Like so many caregivers, he brushed it off. But on October 11, 2022, the family heard the words they never expected to hear again: Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Beau fought bravely, but after only six days, complications led to a catastrophic brain bleed. On October 17, 2022, Beau lost his life.
Three cancer diagnoses. One family. One unimaginable journey.
The Thorne family knows firsthand the emotional toll, the financial strain, the fear, and the heartbreak that cancer brings. They know what it’s like to feel lost in hospital hallways, to wait for test results, and to pray for one more day.
Out of this pain came a purpose.
The Beau Thorne Memorial Fund was created to honor Beau’s life and to ensure that no family has to walk this journey alone. This nonprofit exists to raise awareness, support families in crisis, and bring hope to those facing the same overwhelming battles the Thornes have lived through.
Your support helps carry Beau’s legacy forward — turning heartbreak into healing, and loss into love.
Together, we can make sure no family fights alone.
All proceeds are raised to donate to Blood Cancer United.
